Not content with having the best seafood restaurant in the world (Rick Stein says so), Fleur Sullivan has her sights set on a Victorian banqueting hall in Oamaru’s historic precinct.

“Really, someone should shoot me.” said Fleur when she first announced here decision to set up a new restaurant in the Loan & Mercantile building which faces the last few metres of the new Alps to Ocean bicycle trail. Inside and out, The Loan & Merc will remain much as it was 130 years ago. Fleur plans to furnish it with sideboards, tables and benches made from the old kauri boards left over from the demolished shed she used to build Fleurs Place.
